Knussen on Knussen

This weekend took in the symphony. Oliver Knussen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Knussen), conductor; and Leila Josefowicz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leila_Josefowicz), violin. The program consisted of two of Knussens's pieces in the middle with Stravinsky's Fireworks at the start and Stravinsky's The Fairy's Kiss at the end after intermission. Fairy's Kiss was great as this is the first time I've heard it - it's a rework of one of Tchaikovsky's pieces. Knussen's violin concerto was started with a ring of a bell and the violin and ended the same way, as he said the violin traveled a terrain in between. The house was only half full and sadly many people missed out on this super concert.
